Wall build ups – So many options…

Open panel, closed panel, hybrid panel, PassiveHaus the list goes on. We have been fortunate enough to be involved with a wide variety of projects and one of the most common questions is, “We just need to achieve Building Regulations?”

Here we try to simplify this.

Here at DG Timber Solutions, we can pull on the great knowledge held within the business to find and offer the right solution for all the stakeholder’s requirements and preferences for the project.

Insulation types are a plenty, rigid board (PIR), Mineral or glass wool, multifoil insulation and even Warmcel, we have done them all.

We have projects on site using 184mm closed panel to accommodate soft insulation to meet the new regulations, another which will be to PassiveHaus with Warmcel blown in insulation and many companies are offering both open and closed panel systems now.

So… which one is best?

Most commonly installed these days is the 140mm deep panel (plus 9mm OSB and breather membrane) which will achieve 0.16 W/M²/K with a brickwork outer skin (0.17 W/M²/K with cladding) this has the vapour control layer and service zone fitted in the factory. This is very likely to be the product you need, However and recently we offered a 0.15 W/M²/K solution on a timber frame wall build up with mineral wool and a lightweight cladding including an A1 sheaving board that was less than 300mm deep.

Sometimes you have to work “out of the box” so to speak and find ways that fit, and this is where our strengths are, you could say it’s in our DNA.

We also have all the thermal bridging details which are now a requirement in SAP so call upon the experts for your next project.

If the feedback from recent conversations is anything to go by, we are doing ok.

So, if you want to have a chat on how to achieve the new Approved Part L of the Building regulations get in touch.
